“San Francisco State University will be hiring an endowed chair in American Jewish studies, and in doing so will create a Department of Jewish Studies faculty that includes two professors in this important field. By making our program a center for the study of American Jews and Judaism, we not only will realize a key element of our long-term strategy for Jewish Studies, but we will place ourselves in a strong position in terms of research, teaching, and broad engagement with a wide array of Jewish subjects, both in the classroom and in serious conversation with the Bay Area community.”
